DUB-GEM: IAEA to use drone-based gamma spectrometry developed in the project

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is planning to provide training in the technology of drone-based gamma spectrometry developed at DUB-GEM later this year. A recently published article provides information on the latest progress in the project.

At former uranium mining sites in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan, uncontrolled discharges of radioactive contamination into transboundary rivers in the region are imminent due to natural hazards such as floods or landslides. In the CLIENTII project DUB-GEM, a consortium of German and Central Asian partners develops a monitoring technique installed on a drone for the rapid detection of the radioactive contamination situation in the vicinity of these sites.
