Central Asian TRANSPOND project partners collaborate on laboratory work in Radeberg

Central Asian TRANSPOND project partners collaborate on laboratory work in Radeberg

The accredited radionuclide laboratory IAF-Radioökologie GmbH in Radeberg near Dresden, which coordinates the CLIENT II project TRANSPOND, organised a joint placement for Kyrgyz and Uzbek radiochemists from 11 to 15 November 2019.

In the BMBF-funded TRANSPOND project, IAF and Central Asian partner laboratories are developing methods for assessing the transboundary transport of radioactive waste from former uranium mines. The project therefore serves not only scientific purposes but also supports conflict prevention in Central Asia.

The week spent collaborating on complex laboratory work at IAF in Germany brought the partners much closer to the goal of building trust and cooperation between the scientists working in the neighbouring states of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
